The Metallwerkstatt Tacheles is an international artists
collective created in 1992.
The goal of the collective is to provide an easy access to
art, both to the public and to artists.
The collectives organises ateliers and galleries in
different locations, always open to the public, offering the visitors a unique show
where the artists create live their artistic productions, such as metal and
wood sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographies and videos.
Located from 1992 to 2013 in the famous berliner Art House
Tacheles, the workshops and gallery first occupied the ground floorof the
builing. In 2008, it expanded to the backyard of the art House.
Within the years, the space grew and became a worldwide know
art center hosting over 100 artistsfrom all over the worldand up to 500 000
visitors per year.
The collective organised projects, such as « Anima
Ferri » (1998), « Anima Ferrea » (2008-2011), the artists
residency in Gavrinis, France, « Traces » (2009)… and exhibitions
such as, « Hanare » (1994), « Kokoro » (1994), « Silence »
(1996), « Pavyon Taksim /Situation Bericht » (1997), and
interractive urban art projects : « Wörter Für Berlin »
(2003-2007), « Kelime Kelime Istanbul » (2010-2011)….
In 2011, the artists grounded the association « Art Pro
Tacheles » and started the « Mobile Atelier Project » (MAP).
From 2011 to 2012 the building of the Tacheles was evicted,
the in june2013 the ateliers and gallery from the Metallwerkstatt Tacheles were
closed by the authorities and also evicted.
The First Mobile Atelier Project opened in the Plus Hostel, Berlin in 2012. (MAP#1)
In autumn 2013, part of the collective has set up a working
and exhibition space in Istanbul, the MAP#3.
From march to october 2014, the collective opened the temporary
atlier/gallery « MAP#2. Genius Loci » in the « Garten der
Erinnerung », Berlin.
In 2015, the MAP#4 started in Dorfhain, near Dresden,
Germany. Where artists opened a sculpture Ateliers in collaboration with the
Jähnig GmbH.
